    Courses Taught:Anatomy & Physiology; Microbiology
    Course Format: Hybrid
"The latest trends in education include providing increased access to higher education with decreased capital resources. As such, hybrid/online course offerings have dramatically increased. When I took on teaching microbiology and A&P as hybrid courses I was concerned that the quality of the provided education would be jeopardized. However, after adopting the Mastering programs, I have seen my hybrid students out-perform traditional students on proctored exams by almost a full letter grade. Also, it has decreased my workload, increased student success and retention, and provided me with invaluable feedback on student performance. Simply put, it works."

"I've found Mastering to be a great replacement for my paper assignments. I'm especially happy that I've been able to incorporate hints into questions that have historically given my students a hard time. I've also found that it helps my students to be more responsible about meeting deadlines and more technologically literate."

"Mastering has enabled me to provide an organized and efficient way to enhance student engagement without requiring extra time out of my schedule. I have seen increases in student scores, with better student involvement and understanding during class lectures - even chapters later when concepts reappear. Mastering activities encompass the diverse learning styles we all encounter in the classroom so that all students benefit."

"Mastering has actually managed to get myself and my students excited about homework! I've found that pre-lecture assignments help focus my lecture time on topics where students most need help. Additionally, Mastering offers students a grade incentive for preparing themselves ahead of lecture, which has clearly improved their in-class performance. Most startling to me was the day my students went from grumbling about homework to emailing me to remind me to make their homework available ahead of time!"

    Courses Taught:Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II
    Course Format: Traditional
"I offer Mastering homework assignments to get the students to process the lecture material soon after it is presented in class. Topics supported through Mastering assignments show an 8% higher overall test average than unsupported topics. Thus, even though the homeworks themselves have little impact on final course grades, completion of the assignments does."

"I use Mastering assignments to help students keep up with the course reading and to know what types of questions to expect on unit exams. I have also started using Mastering to easily assess course-level Student Learning Outcomes and generate assessment reports. When compared with other systems, I have found Mastering easy to use and very reliable."

"Mastering helps me address a variety of learning styles through videos and animations, and helps give the students instant feedback and guidance. It takes misconceptions and wrong answers and turns them into learning opportunities. Students who use Mastering as it's intended “get it” much easier than those who don't."

"My course is typically over 200 students per semester and I've always struggled with an effective way to incorporate homework / outside class assignments. The flexibility of Mastering allows me to tailor outside work as the course is ongoing. It's been well received by my students and I've seen a definite improvement in exam scores and overall grades."

"Our accelerated format requires my students, virtually all of whom are "non-traditional," to learn a lot in a short time. They have embraced MasteringA&P with great enthusiasm, and I can see that their scores and understanding have improved."
  • Image of Professor H. Rodney Holmes from Waubonsee Community College

    Course Format: Traditional; Hybrid
"MasteringA&P is a tool bag from which the instructor can choose exactly the right learning tool for the particular objective, at exactly the right time, from the first day of class through the final exam. By posting 4-5 weekly assignments of 15-45 minutes each, I am able to provide an essential learning experience that is particularly effective. Tracking four semesters with and without MasteringA&P, I am seeing higher exam scores and increased retention. To my surprise, the students love MasteringA&P, and unanimously recommend that I continue requiring it for future classes!"

    Clarkston, GA

    Courses Taught:Anatomy & Physiology I & II
    Course Format: Traditional
"Since I started using Mastering, test grades have improved by approximately 5-10%, and students are better prepared for class. The grade book is fantastic, with color coding of scores and instant identification of how much of the assignment was completed, making walk-in office visits much easier. The diagnostics information for assignments gives real time information about which topics need to be addressed in the next class, and the assignments page makes it much simpler to change assignment information if I run a little behind in class, or for individual students who have learning disabilities."
  • Image of Professor Erin Morrey from Georgia Perimeter College

    Erin Morrey

    Course Format: Traditional
"Through the use of Mastering products for pre-class assignments, I have seen an increase in students' understanding of challenging concepts when we are in class. Mastering allows me to identify challenging concepts prior to class and therefore use class time more effectively to cover those topics."
